Grantmaking trusts and foundations are an essential component of the Third Sector providing grants to other charities and directly to individuals. Grantmakers operate across all fields of activities and beneficiary groups funding innovative programmes and in some cases represent the funder of last resort. Grantmakers are increasingly operating in a collaborative way to ensure that their “investments” achieve the maximum effect.

In developing funding programmes, appraising applications, and monitoring and evaluating projects; grantmakers need access to robust and comprehensive intelligence on the Third Sector.
